Mount Sinai Elementary students use a math program callend enVision math (k-4). enVision mathematics is grounded in problem-based and visual learning to create fun and engaging environments that invite inquiry and discovery. enVision Mathematics is designed to achieve a coherent progression of mathematical content within each course and across the program, building lesson to lesson. Every lesson includes online practice instructional examples as the progression of topics builds, allowing students additional practice with these skills and to develop a deeper conceptual understanding. Middle School focuses on skills in mathematical operations, computation, and pre-algebra and algebra skills. Students must demonstrate proficiency on the New York State Mathematics Assessment at the end of the grades 5, 6, 7, and 8. Accelerated students may take Regents-level Algebra, with up to one high school credit granted in eighth grade. These students will take a regent’s exam in June.
Grade 5 students at Mount Sinai Middle School use Eureka math by Great Minds. Thoughtfully constructed and designed like a story, Eureka Math is meticulously coherent, with an intense focus on key concepts that layer over time, creating enduring knowledge. Students gain a complete body of math knowledge, not just a discrete set of skills. With a great focus on fewer topics centered on the major work of the grade band, students develop an understanding of the why, not just the how behind the math.
