Middle School Math

The middle school mathematics curriculum at Mt. Sinai Middle School is designed to build a strong foundation in essential mathematical skills, including operations, computation, and foundational algebraic concepts. Students are expected to demonstrate proficiency on the New York State Mathematics Assessment at the end of grades 5, 6, 7, and 8, ensuring that they have mastered the key concepts required for academic success.

For accelerated students, there is the opportunity to take Regents-level Algebra as early as eighth grade, with the potential to earn up to one high school credit. These students will also sit for the Regents Exam in June to assess their knowledge and readiness for high school-level mathematics.

In Grade 5, students use Eureka Math by Great Minds, a comprehensive curriculum that is carefully designed to foster deep understanding of mathematical concepts. Eureka Math is built with coherence in mind, guiding students through a progression of key concepts that build over time, ultimately creating lasting and meaningful mathematical knowledge. Unlike traditional curricula that focus solely on discrete skills, Eureka Math provides students with a comprehensive understanding of mathematics, emphasizing both the "why" and the "how." By concentrating on a focused set of topics, students develop a mastery of critical concepts, which supports long-term retention and application of mathematical principles.
