Mount Sinai District-Wide School Safety Plan Update and Information

Posted Date: 7/22/24 (2:41 PM)

Dear Mount Sinai Community,

We are pleased to announce that our school district has developed a comprehensive safety plan in accordance with New York State’s Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation. This plan is available for the community’s review and comment. It will remain accessible for thirty days, and we welcome all feedback via email to Mr. Scott Reh at Mount Sinai High School. (sreh@mtsinai.k12.ny.us).

Our District-Wide Safety Plan is designed to ensure the health and safety of all staff and students in the event of a serious violent incident or emergency. It outlines specific safety and security programs focused on prevention, intervention, and crisis response, including risk reduction, response, and recovery for a variety of potential emergencies within the Mount Sinai School District and its three school buildings.

Each of our buildings has also developed a detailed Building-Wide Safety Plan, aligned with the protocols defined in the district-wide plan. To maintain the safety of all students and staff, the specifics of these plans remain confidential. Each school has designated staff members trained to respond effectively in emergency situations.

We have established a District-Wide Safety Team to serve in an advisory capacity, responsible for assessing the vulnerability of Mount Sinai’s schools to violence and recommending preventative actions. This team will meet regularly to discuss safety-related issues and make necessary updates and revisions to the plan annually.

In the event of an emergency, we are committed to taking every possible step to ensure student safety, including coordination with schools, government officials, and first responder agencies. Should a crisis occur during school hours, we are prepared to keep your children secure and safe at school while providing a steady, reliable flow of information.

To aid our efforts, it is crucial that your child’s school has up-to-date phone numbers to reach you or your designee. If you have any questions regarding your child's school safety measures, please do not hesitate to contact your principal.

Every student deserves an educational environment where they feel welcomed and supported in a safe and orderly school. We deeply appreciate your partnership and cooperation in our ongoing efforts to ensure the well-being of our school community.

Sincerely,

Christine Criscione, Ed.D.
